Chiropractic
Chiropractic care focuses on the relationship between the body’s structure and its function. The concept behind chiropractic care is that this relationship is so closely related that the health of the spine can play a direct role in the health of the rest of the body. Treatment of the back is mostly through manipulation, which consists of applying a controlled, sudden force to a joint in the back. This is done to increase the range of motion in the area being treated. In additional to this manipulation, chiropractors may also treat the back and neck using electrical stimulation, heat and ice, magnetic therapy, or rehabilitative exercises.
During the first visit, a chiropractor will go over a client’s medical history and lifestyle and perform a physical examination, which could include x-rays or other tests, to determine if the client is a good candidate for chiropractic care. For each treatment, the chiropractor may make more than one adjustment to the spine in addition to other treatments.
Much like any treatment that is currently available for neck and back pain, these alternative therapies will help some people greatly while others may find that their pain is not relieved at all. Unfortunately there is no magic bullet when it comes to neck and back pain, but these complementary treatments can possibly bring relieve to long term sufferers.
